LOGSA Packaging, Storage, and Containerization Center is the Army's operational coordinator and transportation focal point for the DoD HMIRS. Our goal is to ensure that the Army has up-to-date hazardous materials (HAZMAT) data in an accurate and timely manner.
The DoD HMIRS contains material safety data sheets (MSDS), transportation, disposal, and other value added data. This data will assist you in complying with OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard, the Department of Transportation's HAZMAT transport requirements, and Executive Order 12856, Environmental Testing requirements.
Our goal is to assist you in understanding this data and providing technical guidance to aid in the implementation of the HMIRS data. Army users should provide recommended changes for improvement and information concerning discrepant records to PSCC. As the Army focal point, we will research recommendations and discrepancies, and ensure appropriate action is taken.
The HMIRS is accessible through this web site. You need to complete the application to obtain an ID and password to access the system.
DoD CD ROM 6050.6 is published in -L and -LR versions. The -L version is unrestricted. This is the version that will meet all requirements for most users.
The -LR version contains specific chemical identification data that are trade secrets for a few items. This information must be protected for legal and national security reasons. Only users with a need-to-know, normally environmental, preventative medicine, and safety personnel are authorized to receive this version
of HMIRS. Users who wish to receive the -LR data must provide justification on the HMIRS Form located at this site. All others will receive the -L version. Additionally, in an effort to reduce the amount of CD ROMs being distributed to the Army users, request all Army installations and activities with Local Area Network (LAN) initiate action to load the CDs onto their LAN. The -L version can be loaded for access by all employees; however, the -LR version must be restricted to authorized users only.
To request distribution of the CDs, please click on the HMIRS Form link, and send your completed online form to this office.
